Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S. Mission
Our mission is to provide shelter for up to 30 people when no other shelter can be found. This is accomplished through a partnership with local churches and community service agencies.
Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S. consists of a cold weather shelter and a Resource Center geared to provide support to our guests. With Over 500 trained volunteers, our program director, and part-time staff, we are able to maintain our Shelter and Resource Center programming.
We are very grateful and blessed to have so many people and organizations who want to help improve the lives of our homeless neighbors. Our staff, Board of directors, and our homeless guests thank you for your contributions to Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S.
Our paid staff consists of five part-time Support Service Coordinators. These experienced staff provide the support and coordination of services offered by Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S. The primary focus of all these services and supports is to assist and support our guests as they seek to re-enter the community.
Participating Host Churches
As Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S. is in its eleventh year of operation, we look forward to serving the Gettysburg area. This season, St. James Lutheran Church has offered to shelter our guests the entire season. As C.A.R.E.S. goes forward with this new model, our host churches (listed below) along with other community partners have become the volunteers that cook breakfast daily in the newly renovated kitchen at St. James’ Youth House.
